Robert Redford 1936-2025
This one hurts, doesn’t it?
I got the call this morning that Redford died last night in his sleep and rearranged my morning to write an appreciation for the WaPo; it's below. I will only add that with his death the great movie stars of the late 1960s and 1970s are beginning their long goodbye and that we'd best batten down our psychic hatches for Nicholson (88), Hoffman (88), Duvall (94) and even Pacino (85) and De Niro (82). Not to mention their directors. This is how the brilliant shadows of a generation pass into the night, taking with them the times they embodied, the popular culture they illuminated and the lives they enriched.
